Volunteer Programs

We are passion to develop new skills and showing future to youth towards creating a better world.

In more than century now Scout Movement have been a global tools towards acquisition of knowledge, skills and understanding of local environmental problems to help our community attain positive plans consist of solutions and solve the existing problem.

Mikoko Scout Group have been a good example towards helping community around mangrove forest understand about the importance of conservation and how to go through sustainable development goals. To achieve this volunteers have been a strongest part to make it happen.

Mikoko Volunteers

This is the best program in scouting as had been a long term scouting spirit and Mikoko Scout Group had been able to expand the level and boundary of voluntarism to its members where we are the group of 120 people located along side of marine ecosystem serving more than 10000 individuals per year through our best Mikoko Programs. Our volunteers with partners such as Vodacom Tanzania Foundation and Nabaki Afrika Ltd had together planted about 27,000 mangroves in Tanga and Dar es salaam centers that we are conserving.

International Volunteer Program

This is the very beautiful opportunity offered by Mikoko Scout Group through its best environmental activities that have been demonstrated to the community around mangrove forest. Currently volunteers are only being placed in the Dar es Salaam Region. Volunteer placement occurs twice per year in January/February and June/July. Volunteer positions are for a minimum of six months. Shorter term placements are not being considered at this time. Depending on volunteer skills and experience, key responsibilities could include, for short term volunteer position available at Exchange Programs | Nature & Environmental Youth Camp.

Volunteer Positions

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Development of new biodiversity resources and training materials
  • Coordinate youth nature and environmental camps.
  • Management of a new pilot project creating community maps/environmental plans with Mikoko Scout Groups
  • Coordination of Mikoko Projects field visits.
  • Supporting school-based environmental projects including: o Composting, o Gardening, and o Soil Maintenance.
  • Maintaining a database of Specific project
  • Coordinating Mikoko volunteer/community and university gatherings
  • General support of the Mikoko programs, including: ○ Drafting Quarterly Mikoko Newsletter; ○ Compiling Reports for Membership Database, grants, etc.; ○ Assisting the Mikoko team with event planning and outreach.

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide ICT hardware and software support to all project locations by: o Establishing and managing networks, where applicable. o Installing new software. o Repairing computers and laptops as required. o Maintaining printers and other peripherals in good working order. o Troubleshooting problems finding quick and cost-effective solutions.
  • Support in analyzing ICT aiming to improve these processes with new or upgraded software or systems.
  • Support the management of ICT related assets through budgeting, procurement and tracking.
  • Communication Equipment
  • Oversee the maintenance and use of communication equipment in all project locations, ensuring essential equipment is kept in good repair at all times. Communication equipment may include VSAT, static and mobile HF and VHF radios, satellite phones, mobile phones and landlines.
  • Monitor developments and usage of communication equipment, applicable to the local situation, and make recommendations to the relevant people and departments within Mikoko, in order to ensure Mikoko is making the most cost effective use of available technologies within budgetary constraints.
  • Training
  • Provide appropriate ICT and communication equipment training for Mikoko staff, through one-to-one coaching and taught sessions. This may include basic introduction to Windows and Office applications, e-mail and internet use, intermediate use of Office applications, backups, software installation, simple repairs, use of Mikoko services, etc.
  • Security
  • Ensure the security and integrity of all the program information systems and data.
  • Enforce and develop, if appropriate, relevant guidelines and policies e.g. on line security, passwords, back-up procedures, anti-virus solutions, etc.

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize articles on race and nonprofit leadership, inequality, and other topics as needed;
  • Use statistical programs (e.g. Stata) to prepare data and reports for presentations; Extract, clean, merge, and manage data;
  • Create visualizations of data and design and update PowerPoints and slides for use in presentations;

  • Provide leadership and establish effective partnerships with residents, external stakeholders, Council, other levels of government to ensure programming strength and viability.
  • Lead capacity-building initiatives and partnerships to strengthen community arts and to provide creative opportunities that support social, economic and cultural inclusion.
  • In collaboration, develop internal and external communication strategies to promote arts and culture with the public, support the development of media campaigns for large-scale events and conduct media relations by communicating vision, trends and current issues, events and programs.
  • Guide the continuous improvement of arts and heritage services through analysis, development and implementation.

  • Accountable for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth.
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years.
  • Implements activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  • Assist children and youth with special projects, homework and life skills.
  • Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth and adults.
  • Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily skills.
  • Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.

  • Participates in program evaluation using designated instruments such as programmatic rating scales, risk assessment tools (as required), self-inspection materials and national accreditation tools.

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Mikoko social workers, supervisors and managers to support various action planning tasks to reinforce casework direction.
  • Complete all documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to completion of Clients Approval Requests, referral packets and case filing.
  • Transport children to health, social services or other agency-related appointments as required.
  • Supervise visits between children in placement and family members as directed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Mikoko staff and other constituencies as needed.
  • Conduct and document collateral calls to health/social service providers, schools and law enforcement agencies as directed.
  • Attend supervision, staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism in the community, with clients, schools, courts and with referring agencies seeking to build and sustain positive relationships.
