Mikoko Internship Program

The program had been a very simple and energetic that inspires and mould our youth towards achieve their professional and career goals.

In more than years now Mikoko have been tool towards acquisition of knowledge, skills and understanding of local environmental problems to help our community attain positive plans consist of solutions and solve the existing problem.

Mikoko Development Foundation have been a good example towards helping community around mangrove forest understand about the importance of conservation and how to go through sustainable development goals. To achieve this volunteers have been a strongest part to make it happen.

What About Internship Program

Mikoko is Swahili word means “Mangrove”. Mikoko Development Foundation is the entrepreneurship, eco-tourism, nature and environmental conservation scout group. Mikoko Development Foundation is giving chances to our community to learn new culture and ideas between our think tank to brought about sustainable development.

Target of Mikoko Internship Program

The general purpose of the Internship Program is to promote youth into productive and professional with good achievement of their life time career. We promote youth towards high level of committment and self-responsibility at the work and globla citizenship.

Internship Positions

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Development of new biodiversity resources and training materials
  • Coordinate youth nature and environmental camps.
  • Management of a new pilot project creating community maps/environmental plans with Mikoko Development Foundation
  • Coordination of Mikoko Projects field visits.
  • Supporting school-based environmental projects including: o Composting, o Gardening, and o Soil Maintenance.
  • Maintaining a database of Specific project
  • Coordinating Mikoko volunteer/community and university gatherings
  • General support of the Mikoko programs, including: ○ Drafting Quarterly Mikoko Newsletter; ○ Compiling Reports for Membership Database, grants, etc.; ○ Assisting the Mikoko team with event planning and outreach.
  • • Other duties as assigned and agreed upon with the Mikoko team.
    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide ICT hardware and software support to all project locations by: o Establishing and managing networks, where applicable. o Installing new software. o Repairing computers and laptops as required. o Maintaining printers and other peripherals in good working order. o Troubleshooting problems finding quick and cost-effective solutions.
  • Support in analyzing ICT aiming to improve these processes with new or upgraded software or systems.
  • Support the management of ICT related assets through budgeting, procurement and tracking.
  • Communication Equipment
  • Oversee the maintenance and use of communication equipment in all project locations, ensuring essential equipment is kept in good repair at all times. Communication equipment may include VSAT, static and mobile HF and VHF radios, satellite phones, mobile phones and landlines.
  • Monitor developments and usage of communication equipment, applicable to the local situation, and make recommendations to the relevant people and departments within Mikoko, in order to ensure Mikoko is making the most cost effective use of available technologies within budgetary constraints.
  • Training
  • Provide appropriate ICT and communication equipment training for Mikoko staff, through one-to-one coaching and taught sessions. This may include basic introduction to Windows and Office applications, e-mail and internet use, intermediate use of Office applications, backups, software installation, simple repairs, use of Mikoko services, etc.
  • Security
  • Ensure the security and integrity of all the program information systems and data.
  • Enforce and develop, if appropriate, relevant guidelines and policies e.g. on line security, passwords, back-up procedures, anti-virus solutions, etc.
    Goal of Role
  • Support RISE students with Science Skills and encourage confidence and empowerment.
  • Tasks and Activities
  • Facilitate homework help with small groups of students.
  • Mentor and coach students in setting and achieving goals.
  • Assist School staff and tutor with strengthening and adapting program design to support student success.
  • Support students with Science experience by using Mikoko Science Kits and maintain students data base.
  • Support students to visit Mikoko Nature Labaratory and Library for learning purposes.
  • Organize Weekly Sports & Games activities to kids and youth at their school.
  • Organize annual Sports & Tourism Tournament at the level of district, region or natinal accordingly.
  • Support students to improve the use of Online Digital Content on their class subjects.
  • Teaching kids on Science Issues basically through our methodology of "Learning Science thourgh Environment".
  • Coordinate youth programs and activities at Mikoko Clubs at school for helping kids improve their class perfomance on science subjects based on Mikoko Youth Program/Activities.
    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize articles on race and nonprofit leadership, inequality, and other topics as needed;
  • Use statistical programs (e.g. Stata) to prepare data and reports for presentations; Extract, clean, merge, and manage data;
  • Create visualizations of data and design and update PowerPoints and slides for use in presentations;
  • Contribute to design and distribution of surveys;
  • Respond to other requests for information and data.
  • Conduct research on Mangrove Rehabilitation Project and Marine Ecosystem in general.
  • Collect, Review, Recommend and Publish data based on verified methodology to the public for development purposes.
  • Respond to other requests for information and data.
  • Team up with Tanzania Counterpart for sharing common view and goals on research issues.
    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies
  • Communicating with colleagues and key spokespeople
  • Liaising with, and answering inquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
  • Collating and analyzing media coverage
  • Writing and editing in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports
  • Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs
  • Devising and coordinating photo opportunities.
  • Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours.
  • Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website
  • Managing and updating information and engaging with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
  • Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Commissioning market research.
  • Fostering community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives.
  • Managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation.
    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Mikoko social workers, supervisors and managers to support various action planning tasks to reinforce casework direction.
  • Complete all documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to completion of Clients Approval Requests, referral packets and case filing.
  • Transport children to health, social services or other agency-related appointments as required.
  • Supervise visits between children in placement and family members as directed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Mikoko staff and other constituencies as needed.
  • Conduct and document collateral calls to health/social service providers, schools and law enforcement agencies as directed.
  • Attend supervision, staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism in the community, with clients, schools, courts and with referring agencies seeking to build and sustain positive relationships.

    Where you will be placed during your internship?
  • The program placed you at the region where you will be happy to live and volunteer but this depends on the availability of resources at the specific region and position of your volunteer position. For More information please visit our Region Link
